Throughout the article, we’ll deep dive into the interesting facts and design of the flag as well as the history of Los Angeles.

With that being said, let’s jump right in!

The Design

The Los Angeles city flag is commonly known as the Fiesta flag and for good reason.

The flag features 3 vertical stripes that create a zigzag shape. The right stripe is green, the center is yellow, and the right side is red.

In the direct center is the Los Angeles Seal with the words “The City Of Los Angeles Founded 1781”

This flag actually gained international exposure when it was raised instead of the United States flag in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Another cool fact is that the flag was brought to space in 1984 by Sally Ride, on the space shuttle challenger.

The Meaning

Like most flags, the Los Angeles flag has meaning behind each detail.

The green represents the olive trees native to the city. The orange is for the groves, and the red is for the vineyards.

These colors also represent the history of the city. The gold and red represent Spain, the first country to settle in the city. The green and red represent Mexico who took over the city when Spain gained its independence.

This flag was ranked 33rd out of 150 best city flags in America, so its liked by many!
